Why should you remove star base from office chair?

Step 1: Fall apart the full set base with upholstered office chairs

Remove star base from office chair is a simple and easy process. In most cases it doesn’t even require any tools. Raise the chair gas piston to the highest position, hold the office chair seat with one hand, pull the chair mechanism handle with the other hand, shake it with a pull force a few times,done!The gas piston and star base and castors were apart with upholstered office chairs.

Step 2: Turn the office chair star base up side down

We advice to place old newspapers or drop-cloth on the floor first, So that the grease from the gas piston is lubricated and it will have to be taken apart so the base can be removed.Then turn the full set of base which including gas piston, 4 star base or 5 star base,castors up side down.

Step 3: Remove the gas lift by a hammer

On the newspaper or drop-cloth, place the full set of base in an upside down position so that the chair’s star base center will be visible and easily accessed for disassemble,Use a rubber hammer to hit the bottom of gas piston,Remember to add a wooden board or an old book between gas piston if you don’t have rubber hammer.see picture as below:

Step 4:Remove chair castors from base

Firmly grip one chair wheel and pull away from the chair base. This should release the caster from the socket. If you are having trouble gripping the caster, try using a glove or an old towel. If the chair wheel will not budge, it is possible you have a different stem type (threaded or fixed/welded). Contact us for recommendations.
