Tools You Will Need

Before you start, gather these essential tools:

  • Rubber mallet: Crucial for applying heavy force without shattering nylon bases or denting aluminum ones.
  • WD-40 (or penetrating oil): To loosen stubborn or rusted metal-to-metal connections.
  • Pipe wrench (optional): Only needed if you also plan to detach the gas cylinder from the top seat mechanism.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Remove the Office Chair Base

Step 1: Prep the Chair and Apply Lubricant

Turn your office chair on its side. Locate the joint where the silver gas cylinder meets the center hole of the 5-star base. Spray WD-40 directly into this crevice. Let the oil sit and penetrate for 5 to 10 minutes to break down the friction fit.
